Who We Are

The URI Chapter of the American Association of University Professors represents the 700 full-time faculty and lecturers at the University of Rhode Island. Together we protect academic freedom, bargain collectively with the Board of Governor's on wages and working conditions, protect our contract through the greivance procedure, and work to protect academic freedom at the University of Rhode Island.

As a member of the National AAUP, our local chapter works to advance national legislation to protect academic freedom, and expand access to higher education for everyone. In Rhode Island, our chapter monitors local issues affecting our members, the University and the State Budget. Our union is a proud member of Working RI and joins the RI and national labor movement in efforts to protect the right to organize and to expand workers' rights for everyone.

The Graduate Student Assistants are represented by Graduate Assistants United and the Part-Time Faculty are represented by the Part-Time Faculty Union, both chapters are also affiliated with the National American Association of University Professors.
